Great Britain lost 450,000 casualties (military – including ‘crown colonies’ – and civilian) during World War Two, a war fought against the Axis powers of Fascist Italy, Nazi Germany, Imperial Japan, a variety of ideologically-aligned collaborationist voluntary military units raised across Europe (for example from France, Belgium, Norway, Denmark, Ukraine, Finland, Sweden, Iceland, Croatia, Bosnia, Albania, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania) and ‘minor’ Axis-aligned countries such as Romania, Bulgaria and Hungary.
In that war, our onetime ally, Russia, suffered between 20 and 26 million casualties.
One would assume that no-one in the western world would ever forget those casualties nor the civilisational threat and gross inhumanity motivated and evidenced by Nazi ideology.
One would assume.
It’s worth noting that the 14th SS Waffen Grenadier Division, commonly known as the SS Galicia Division, raised exclusively from Ukrainian volunteers, numbered 22,000 (1945) as compared to the more well-known, ‘fanatical’ and ideologically-pure divisions of the 1st Panzer Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler (22,000), 2nd SS Panzer Das Reich (19,000), 3rd SS Panzer Totenkopf (18,754), and the 12th SS Panzer Hitlerjugend (Hitler Youth – 21,482).
It is illuminating that none of the SS Divisions raised from the above list of collaborationist volunteers from across subjugated Europe – and few of those raised even from a purely German manpower pool – matched the numbers of the Ukrainian SS Galicia Division.
With regard to May 2024, and alongside the familiar swastika…
… the insignia of the 3rd SS Panzer Totenkopf can be found in widespread use by Ukrainian military personnel, today….
… while the insignia of the Ukrainian SS Galicia Division itself is a common sight across modern Ukraine…
… and the insignia of the 2nd SS Panzer Das Reich has been symbolically adapted and adopted by the Ukrainian Azov Brigade itself…
… here proudly held by ex-PM Boris Johnson during a recent (May 24th 2024) visit to the UK Parliament by Azov officers; a visit few UK media outlets are reporting.
And Boris was gifted a book…
… and it’s not just the ever-bloviating Johnson that welcomed neo-Nazis into the heart of UK government. Here are those Azov personnel receiving applause from a selection of UK Parliamentarians during this visit…
Boris himself had some choice words to say before these Azov ‘heroes’ while pushing for escalatory attacks within Russia itself (covered by The Grayzone)…
As I mentioned in an earlier post in relation to Azov…
“Members and past-members of Azov have served in various military and government positions; for example Azov’s deputy commander, Vadym Trojan was appointed head of Kiev Oblast (province) police. Andriy Biletsky served as the Commander of Azov prior to taking up the government office of ‘People’s Deputy of Ukraine’ (2014-2019) and is currently the leader of the National Corps.
‘The historic mission of our nation in this critical moment is to lead the White Races of the world in a final crusade for their survival, a crusade against the Semite-led Untermenschen. ‘
Andriy Biletsky.”
I find the UK’s current support for Ukraine an abomination that grossly dishonours those UK WW2 casualties taken in the fight against Fascism and Nazism. The UK’s current military, economic and political support also runs counter to the high-sounding values, morals, principles and ethics that we hypocritically-espouse.
I find it unconscionable that UK politicians and media organisations support Ukraine, and embrace, laud and applaud members of a military organisation that brazenly embodies the ultra-nationalistic, supremacist, ethno-hating ideology and symbolism of Nazism.
Worse still, I find the ignorance of the UK public on this issue wilful, appalling, inexcusable and similarly unconscionable.
Enough is enough.
