I don’t know about you but over the past few months – particularly – I’ve grown weary and dismayed over the geopolitical space and world events.
On the one hand we are told – constantly – that the ‘evil nexus’ of Russia, Iran and China are set on world domination through military and economic means. Each are populated by ‘enslaved’ or ‘brainwashed’ citizens that have no access to ‘freedom,’ ‘democracy’ or ‘civilised values’ and each are led by cruel, authoritarian despots who have no interest whatsoever in international law.
On the other hand we are told – constantly – that countries such as Ukraine, Israel and the conglomerate that is the European Union, alongside the United States, Canada and Australia (and the like) are freedom-loving, international-law-abiding democracies that conduct themselves according to laudable moralistic and ethically-virtuous principles under the umbrella-term ‘rules-based order.’
Here in the UK, we are free to speak our mind whereas in ‘evil nexus’ nations arrest and prison awaits those that disagree with ‘the state.’
In the UK, our citizen-services such as the National Health Service, provide far superior services to those ‘evil nexus’ countries, and the wellbeing and standard of living of Yookay citizens are head and shoulders above those of naughtier nations.
Western governments are only interested in peace, compared to the death-dealing, murderous totalitarian baddies who aim to dominate us through the gun-barrel of a tank.
And yet with each passing day our utterances are in opposition to our actions and our lies go unchallenged.
UK citizens are not free to non-violently protest or express opinions without actual arrest. UK planes fly in support of Ukraine in missile attacks against civilians, Israel in pursuit of genocide (in Palestine) and assassination (in Lebanon, Syria and Qatar). UK military personnel operate in Weisbaden and Akrotiri in support of war with nary a word in the House of Commons or mainstream media.
The USA is directly involved in supporting war in Ukraine and Israel, has directly bombed Iran, has murdered people in international waters, has a fleet mustering off the coast of Venezuela, and is active in ‘regime-change’ operations in Nepal.
We are told to be ‘outraged’ that Ursula Von Der Leyen’s plane was targeted by Russian GPS-jamming (it wasn’t) and that the word ‘tax-avoider’ was daubed on one of Angela Rayner’s houses (it was). ‘Palestine Action’ we are told, are now a proscribed terrorist group according to law with the result that merely wearing a t-shirt with ‘I support Palestine Action’ will lead to arrest (almost 1,500 people arrested and criminalised in the past month).
The continual proscription of opinions that run counter to prevailing, legally-protected, perspectives on issues such as immigration and gender runs counter to any argument that we Brits are ‘free.’
And yet… and yet… turn your ire and fear upon Russia, China and Iran; they lie and we do not. Sure.
Weary of it all.
